It was definitely a novel first impression, and the packaging along with the jams inside was a highlight of that year in music. Fast forward to the present, and we find that while Adams has refined his sound, the Husbands' ethos remains intact. Using his 4-track recorder as a conduit for the unhurried sounds of western America, Ugly Husbands includes all manner of rusty slide guitar, warbling old tape loops, and hazy sunset reverberation. The first 4-track effort by UH. Recorded in his native Goleta, CA, revised and assembled shortly after a move up north. Certainly a nostalgic trip for Rover top dogs and cadets alike. Warm warbled folk, dino-jr honey guitar, and record player fun which could only be properly capture alone at home on tape.
Each tape came in a hollowed out book purchased from the Santa Cruz Swapmeet and area thrift stores. Much blood and sweat went into these copies.
